The Dow Chemical Company's (NYSE: Dow) Adhesives & Functional Materials business introduced today its latest peelable heat seal coating technology for polyester lidding film applications. ADCOTET HS 40-555 is specifically designed for lidding film sealing to APET and CPET for fresh food and ready meal containers, providing the best combination of peelability and clarity and unique opportunity for a PET-based fully recyclable packaging.

"Dow is continuously looking to improve its product offering to address specific industry needs," said Margherita Fontana, senior marketing manager EMEA, Dow Adhesives & Functional Materials. "The introduction of this new heat seal coating underpins our commitment to the packaging industry with solutions that help address the needs of converters and brand owners for improved seal and packaging performance while enhancing consumer convenience."

With ADCOTET HS 40-555 converters can obtain the flexibility to coat high clarity PET peelable films while at the same time benefiting from improved coating stability, excellent processability and cost competitiveness. Brand owners will particularly appreciate the strong peel strength resulting in excellent sealability on different types of PET containers, while maintaining a good peelability allowing for easy opening by consumers. Its excellent optical clarity with low haze provides greater packaging appeal.

ADCOTET HS 40-555 provides environmentally-conscious brand owners a distinct opportunity to offer a polyester lidding film for a complete PET-based packaging structure that is fully recyclable, thus reducing the environmental impact of the final packaging.

"Customer trials show excellent sealing performance against APET, APET lined CPET and PVC trays and very good resistance to fats and oil," said Thomas Udhayasingh, Technical Service and Development, Dow Adhesives & Functional Materials. "ADCOTET HS 40-555 can be coated on the polyester film directly, the coating runs smoothly and consistently on the existing gravure coating machine without any issues and the coated film is block resistant up to a temperature of 40°C."
